TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS
(revised Aug 22th , 2024)
1. All CHA, OHF, NOHA rules shall apply and there will be no Body Checking in any division.
2. Neck guards and mouthguards are required during all tournament games if their district requires them during league play.
3. Each team will be permitted a maximum of 19 players, including goaltenders. No change in team roster will be allowed after the first game.
4. All affiliated players must be declared prior to the first game played by presenting appropriate documentation.
5. No player shall play for more than 1 team in a division.
6. Games consist of 3 stop time periods of 10 minutes. See Section 8 for additional details.
7. All teams MUST be ready to play 30 minutes prior to game time.
8. Code of Conduct
a. Individual Player Fighting or Gross Misconduct
Any player assessed a fighting penalty or Gross Misconduct is disqualified from play for the remainder of the
Tournament, including his regular team if the player was an “Affiliate”.
Any player who receives a MAJOR penalty shall be ejected from the game.Any player who receives a MATCH penalty shall be ejected from the game and suspended from the remainder of the tournament.
b. Team – Multiple Instances of Fighting
Any team who has players assessed Fighting penalties at two different stoppages in play is disqualified from the
Tournament.
c. Game Ejection
Any player assessed three (3); 2 minute infraction “incidents” of any kind, during a game, will be removed from that
game. Note:
● a double minor assessed for the same incident counts as 1 incident;
● a second penalty issued at the same “clock-time” would count as 2 incidents, e.g. player is assessed a
second penalty during the “initial delay” or the player is assessed a “unsportsmanlike” penalty for comments made on his way to the penalty box.
Barring any other discipline applicable under the NOHA’s policies and procedures, a player is eligible to play the next game without further penalty.
d. The tournament committee reserves the right to suspend or have removed from the arena facilities any player,team official or spectator whose conduct is deemed to be detrimental to the tournament.
9. Preliminary Games:
The following rule will govern the duration of the tournament preliminary games including elimination games:
a. There is a 2-minute warm-up starting at the game’s scheduled time.
b. Teams will be required to shake hands before the start of the game.
c. All games will consist of three 10-minute stop-time periods with a maximum elapsed time of 47 minutes.
d. No overtime in the preliminary round games
e. 1 (one) timeout of 30 seconds per team per game
f. Points (not applicable in Elimination Games - see (e) below)
i. 2 points for a win
ii. 1 point for a tie
iii.0 points for a loss
g. Seeding
i. Total in points
ii. tie will be broken through the NOHA tie breaker rules
iii. if a tie remains, penalty minutes will be considered (less penalty minutes will win)
iv. if a tie remains, best result vs same team will win
10. Championship (aka “Medal”) Games:
a. 3 periods of 10 minutes stop-time
b. All overtime periods shall be 5 minutes stop-time sudden win play.
i. FIRST overtime period: 4 skaters + goalie
ii. SECOND overtime period: 3 skaters + goalie
iii. THIRD overtime period: 2 skaters + goalie
c. If any penalty is called during OT play, a player shall be added to the opposing team and the penalized player shall
not return to the ice for the duration of the penalty.
d. one (1) timeout per team per game
11. All disputes, protests and misunderstandings will be reviewed by the tournament committee and their decision will be FINAL.
12. The home team will be the team with the highest seeding after the preliminary portion of the tournament.
13. The mercy rule will be in effect after a five (5) goal spread. The clock will run “straight time” after the 2nd period. However, if the spread is reduced to less than five goals stop time will be reinstated.
14. Teams are to vacate the dressing rooms within 30 minutes of the end of the game.Team officials are to ensure dressing
rooms are tidy before teams vacate the room.
NOHA Tie Breaking
In the event of teams being tied at the end of the preliminary games, for any position, the following procedure will be used to break a tie:
TWO TEAMS:
A. The team with the most wins will take the higher position.
B. If still tied, the winner of the game(s) between those two teams will take the higher position.
C. If still tied, the team with the best goal average will take the higher position. All Round Robin games are included.
D. If still tied, the team that scored the first goal in the game involving both teams will take the higher position.
E. If still tied, the team with the lowest number of penalty minutes during the Round Robin will take the higher position. (GM= 10 minutes, MP=15 minutes, GRM=10 minutes, Misconduct =10 minutes).
F. If still tied, a coin toss will determine the higher position. The coin toss will be done by the Tournament Committee in the
presence of a representative from each team. A representative from the Tournament Committee will assign which team is
Heads or Tails.
THREE to FIVE TEAMS:
A. The team with the most wins will take the higher position.
B. If still tied, the team with the higher percentage will take first, the rest placing in order. (see chart below)
C. If still tied, the team with the lowest number of penalty minutes during the Round Robin will take the higher position.
D. If still tied, a coin toss will determine the higher position. The coin toss will be done by the Tournament Committee in the
presence of a representative from each team. A representative from the Tournament Committee will assign which team is
Heads or Tails.
E. If 3 or more teams are still tied, then the Tournament Committee representative will place each team’s name in a hat. The
first team’s name pulled will be the higher-placed team and so on.
12. Maintaining a respectful and harassment-free environment during the tournament is essential. There will be ZERO tolerance regarding any berating or taunting of any players, officials, staff,or tournament volunteers. The committee reserves the right to eject any person whom it deems to be behaving in an improper manner and we accept no liability in connection with such ejections.
13. Team officials are responsible for the conduct and supervision of their team’s participants at all times. No running, shooting, stick handling or passing any objects is permitted anywhere in the facility other than the ice rinks.
14. All referee decisions are final and may not be appealed.
15. It is the responsibility of the coach or team manager to inform the tournament chairperson of all the players who
cannot be photographed.
16. Check-in : One team representative must check-in to the registration desk at the Verner Arena, no less than one hour
before the team’s first scheduled game.
